Videy Island!

Again, my parents don’t have Icelandic letters on their computer so it is pronounced, Vee-thay. The D is supposed to be the slashed d. Anyway…

The last trip that Xan and I took in Iceland before I left was to Videy island. It’s a small island located north of Iceland’s north harbor. It is smaller than the Westmann Ilsand that we visited.

Here’s a picture from Iceland’s North Harbor as we waited for the ferry. Its the patch of green before the mountains.

The mountains are not part of the island. Here’s a picture of the north side of the island.

This was taken of the northwest side of the island.

Here’s a portrait of Xan in front of Iceland’s north harbor.

They built this house for a Danish royalty when he came to visit a few hundred years ago. It’s now been renovated into a restaurant. The church is still intact and was built at the same time.

The white monument in the next picture was made for John Lennon. I have a close up shot of the writing on it later. It shoots up a giant pillar of light that they shine over Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

It was such a beautiful and clear day, you could see snaefellsness across the bay. This is looking out west.

The whole place was gorgeous so a lot of the pictures I took are just scenic.

Here’s another restaurant that can be rented out on special occasions, I think. The tourist brochure is somewhere in the chaos of all my in-the-process-of-final-packing-stuff.

This picture is also facing west.

Here’s the close up of the Lennon memorial piece. It says the same thing in all sorts of languages.

More scenery.

Handsome husband.

Me and the city Reykjavik behind me.

A fancy shot I attempted to take.

A sail boat I thought was picturesque.

This is the southwest coast of the island.

This is the south-west coast facing east.

Still heading west. It was a long island but we made it around the western half in about a half an hour walking along the shore.

The wild grass and flowers were stunning!

These pillars are located in several spots on the island and are all the same height.

More of the beautiful south west coast.

Okay. I guess i took a break taking pictures for a while because now we are on the eastern side of the island on the south coast.

Here’s a statue of the virgin Mary

Xan went and played down at the beach. He eventually convinced me to join him.

Lots of birds were nesting along the coastline.

The east south coast.

And, that concludes the Videy trip. It was so relaxing and peaceful! Loved it! This next picture is a church or hotel or something that is near our house that I watching whenever we drive past it because it looks like a castle. Just pretty.

Well, that concludes the Iceland pictures. 🙂 That was fun, right? The best part about this blog is that now I don’t have to scrapbook anything. Its all in the blog! LOL!
Next stop, Ithaca, New York.
